Alpinist, steep skiing expert and Mountain Guide Sam Anthamatten shows us around his playground in Zermatt
Is Sam Anthamatten the best all round skier in the world at the moment? It’s a fair question: not only can the Swiss skier throw down with the best on the Freeride World Tour, but he’s also comfortable hucking backflips and spins in the Swatch Skiers Cup, charging the most ridiculous steeps in the Alps alongside madman Jeremie Heitz, and as an accomplished Mountain Guide and big wall climber is a high level alpinist too.
It seems there’s little Anthamatten can’t achieve in the mountains, and now we learn he’s a speed rider too! Born and raised in Zermatt by a line of Mountain Guides, he’s uniquely at home amongst the high alpine peaks and glaciers. In this video he demonstrates his intimate knowledge of ‘his playground,’ jumping straight from the heli into a steep big mountain line, winding his way through a maze of crevasses and ice cliffs, then finally soaring through the air with a speed wing down to town. Watch out for the sting in the tail though!
