Women’s Overall Ski of the Year: Nordica Santa Ana 93

Nordica’s Santa Ana 93 is a gutsy all mountain ski for hard charging women who demand nimbleness as well as stability in all conditions

The Santa Ana is the twin sister of Nordica’s legendary Enforcer, but is truly a bad-ass charging all mountain workhorse in it its own right. Always a favourite of our test team, the Santa Ana has been upgraded with a new construction for 17/18 and is now more capable than ever.

The makeover is definitely more than skin deep, though we have to admit we’re pretty taken with the gorgeous new snowflake graphics too. Two sheets of titanal have been added along with a hybrid balsa wood core; as a result the new Santa Ana is far more powerful and much damper at speed in crud, but still feels as light and nimble as ever.

The line up also includes a more powder-focussed Santa Ana 110 (as in 110mm underfoot) and 100, but the 93 is our pick of the bunch as a freeride weapon that can also cut the pistes to shreds – it’s a real do anything ski, and could easily be a quiver of one for ladies who ski hard whatever the conditions.

They come equipped with Nordica’s ‘camRock,’ a superb blend of camber underfoot with subtle tip and tail rocker which is really the best of both worlds: the rockered sections contribute to the Santa Ana’s nimbleness and deliver plenty of fun in powder, while the large section of camber keeps everything grounded with lots of edge bite when groomer-zooming and a deliciously poppy spring from turn to turn on hard snow.
