Scott have been working their “black magic” as the carbon experts (in skis, boots, poles and bikes) for many years now so it is no wonder that their techy wizards can pack a lot of great ski into a sub-90 underfoot lightweight board.
This is a brand that loves to ski, so they are always looking for ways to keep the weight down but refuse to compromise on skiing performance. The little brother to last year’s Touring Ski of the Year Overall winner, the Speedguide 95, the new 89 is a clever addition to a fantastic range that inherited the tried and tested elliptical paulownia wood core from the SuperGuide line. This cunning sandwich sidewall with carbon/aramid elliptic construction gives more lateral and torsional stiffness for less weight; yet still allows a whippy flex that makes the ski such fun to ride. Throw in some high strength (and vibration absorbing) kevlar and this gives the ideal high performance construction for demanding ski touring endeavours.
At 89mm under foot, this will suit the traditional ski tourer who knows they don’t need to go any wider. Whilst Scott are hell bent to keep the weight down, they still put more ski where it is required – so the 124mm tip and 113mm tail give you a 19m radius. Combine this with the progressive sidecut and a pro-tip rocker and you get a lot of downhill performance in just 1270 grams per pair. Also in 80 and 95.
