Scott Couloir Mountain Helmet

TESTED BY LEE

The Scott Couloir Mountain Helmet is a dual-certified ski and mountaineering helmet with all the cred to help keep your head safe and protected when travelling in the high mountains.

Scott’s tech dudes have used ultra-protective wonder material Casidion in the top of the shell to create a feathery, freeride-inspired lid designed to provide the latest in impact protection. Apparently Casidion is ‘EPS on steroids’ – a big time material that’s widely used in motorbike helmets.

The Couloir lid is light and low profile so you can easily strap it to your pack or wear it when skinning on wild days in the backcountry and/or bootpacking in exposed and rocky terrain.

Lining up in Scott’s Ski Touring ‘Mountain’ collection, it comes with softer ear pads than the Swiss brand’s more mainstream, resort-specific helmets which means you can fold the ear pads inside the helmet, resulting in a more streamlined package when attached to your pack.

The removable liner means you can wear it over a beanie, or on its own on those warmer spring days. It’s also headtorch compatible.

Verdict

A versatile, light and comfy lid that will take you from the resort into the big mountains in style and safety.
