This is the glacier region of Tux-Finkenberg. Hintertux offers 365 days of skiing a year – the only place in Austria – on its high glacier that reaches over 3200m. There’s a total of 245km of meticulously prepared slopes and a skiable vertical of 1,750m, 1300m of which is on-piste.
Hintertux’s northerly aspect guarantees decent snow depth and being so high, there are no trees. In the sunshine this can be some of the best skiing, but leaves it exposed when bad weather rolls in.
Summer skiing on the Hintertux Glacier runs from late May to mid-October. A total of 10 lifts operate on 20km+ of slopes, the longest being 2km.
There are 30 rustic restaurants on the mountain, and ski-in ski-out accommodation at the resort base. But you’ll find better ski village life in Finkenberg and Tux.
Hintertux Glacier ski area has an interlinked lift pass with nearby Mayrhofen, the Zillertal Arena and Hichzillertal. Using this Zillertaler SuperSkiPass opens up the 550km of ski trails in the region.
