Villars is a traditional Swiss ski resort that sits on a natural terrace, overlooking the Rhône Valley, offering breathtaking views from the Muverans to the Dents du Midi. From the top of the ski runs, stunning views of the Mont Blanc can also be seen. Its close proximity to Geneva airport makes it an ideal destination for weekends and short breaks.
The resort is very family focused. Its free ski pass offered throughout the entire season for children less than six years of age is an added bonus for families.
The centre of town has a pleasant high street lined with a variety of shops and several restaurants offering a wide variety of choice, including local cheeses and specialities of the region and locally produced wine.
Villars is connected to the ski areas of Gryon, Diablerets and Glacier 3000 and has plenty of skiing opportunities for the beginner and intermediate skier. There are wide blue runs at the Bretaye ski area, as well as a good range of blue and red runs throughout and more difficult terrain at Les Diablerets and from Roc d’Orsay back to the village. A lengthy trip to the glacier at Les Diablerets is an enjoyable excursion from Villars. Weather permitting; you will be rewarded by spectacular views of the Eiger, the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc from the panoramic restaurant.
Beginners can learn to ski on the sunny terrace at Bretaye, which has the advantage of high altitude and good snow for longer into the season. Skiers and non-skiers can meet at the restaurant at the top by way of the mountain funicular or cable car. In the centre of town there is also a beginner’s area for children that have a free mini ski lift.
The whole ski area has three snow parks with one in Villars, as well as off piste (guide recommended) and night skiing opportunities.
The many mountain restaurants offer superb views from the terrace, and for those looking for a gentler alternative, a large number of marked winter walking trails. There is also some 35 km of marked snowshoe paths across Villars and Gryon, suitable for all levels and a 2 kms sled run, as well as an indoor and outdoor skating rink, indoor swimming pool, sports centre and bowling lounge.
