USHBA: Forget Alaska, Georgia is the next frontier of skiing!

Heliskiing in Georgia - the 'Wild Wild East'

Watch as Sam Anthamatten, Leo Slemett and Markus Eder attempt a first descent of Ushba in the Wild Wild East – and prove that Georgia is the real frontier of skiing!

Sam Anthamatten has long nursed a goal to climb and ski mount Ushba, but put it on the back burner following the sad death of his friend and fellow ski alpinist Andreas Fransson in 2014.

During the 2016/17 season the idea resurfaced, and he recruited The North Face teammates Markus Eder and Leo Slemett to join his ambitious and daring plan.

Late in the season the trio travelled to Svaneti Georgia to attempt the first descent of the mystical and extremely remote 4710m peak in the heart of the Caucasus Mountains – and as a warm up threw down in one of the wildest heliski sessions we’ve ever seen on film!
