If you like your skiing with a large dose of pop and a whole lot of freeride fun then you need to take a pair of these stealthy cool new Black Ops skis for a spin.

Up for grabs are a pair of the 104-underfoot Black Ops Sender (if a man wins) or the 102-underfoot Black Ops Rallybird (if a woman wins). Both have been given our prestigious 2021 Editor’s Choice award for being so flip-tastically brilliant.

With their sustainably sourced woodcores and recycled steel edges, the new Black Ops skis are a multi-talented bunch that encourage you to ‘Ride Free’.

Rossignol designed them to allow riders to ski what they like, how they like, in their own particular style. How? By extending the paulownia wood core into the shovel and doing away with the full honeycomb (as found in the Soul 7 of previous generations), they’ve increased the contact point and torsional stability in the ski. So in the Black Ops you get a ski that is more sure-footed and confidence-inspiring, meaning your turns are smoother from start to finish.

In order to balance the new shovels, the tail is designed to allow quick pivots in tighter spaces, allowing skiers of a range of abilities to access all sorts of terrain.

Spec-wise, besides the ultra-versatile waist width, the Black Ops Sender has a pretty zippy turn radius of 18m, and the Black Ops Rallybird turns in at 16m, making both weapons mega-fun for whipping out carves on the way back to the lift.

And last but not least, the weight is impressively low for such a capable ski with the Sender weighing in at 2100g @ 178 and the Rallybird at 1800g @ 170. Sling ’em on your backpack and/or mount them up with touring bindings and get set to hike and ride free.
