We’ve teamed up with Swiss snow safety experts Mammut to help you guys explore the backcountry safely this winter
Up for grabs is Mammut’s Barryvox S package (£450) – aka all the avalanche equipment you need for freeriding, off-piste runs or ski touring. It contains the quite brilliant Barryvox S avalanche transceiver, the lightweight Probe 240 and the small, compact Alugator Ride avalanche shovel.
The digital-analog, 3-antenna Barryvox S avalanche transceiver is a tried and trusted bakcountry partner thanks to its extremely simple operation, an effective search strip width of 70 meters and clear instructions. The aluminum avalanche Probe 240 is safe and easy to use, even when wearing gloves, and the lightweight Alugator Ride shovel features a blade made of hardened, anodized aluminum.
And that’s not all… Mammut is also giving away one of its avalanche airbags to seal the freeride deal. The Free 28 Removable Airbag 3.0 (£550) is lightweight and has everything you expect from an avalanche backpack. Our Airbag System 3.0 is dependable, long-lasting and one of the lightest on the market. Orange elements make you more visible from a distance.
Designed to be visible in the event of an emergency, the bold and bright Free 28 airbag is all about clever design features. A trail running vest-inspired carrying system keeps the weight close to your body so it doesn’t bounce around, and it comes with optimised hip and shoulder straps and a new 3D-moulded back panel for incredible comfort and a perfect fit.
The main compartment is accessible both from the top and through a zippered opening on the back and it comes with a separate high-viz orange snow safety tools compartment, helmet holder and side compression straps. Other features of note include its PFC-free construction which uses recycled materials.
